Worrying Times

moneyI think every one is freaking out about the state of the economy at the moment. I know I am because the work I do is not steady and we have just bought our own house — it’s probably the worst time to be doing that but according to the experts this recession is going to last at least a few years — so it was sort of a case of now or never.

I feel most for my fiances boss, he bought a few properties just before things started to take a down turn — with the plan of renting them out and raking it in. Now a few years later he can’t rent them out for peanuts and is losing out by having to pay the mortgages and upkeep of the buildings himself. The whole situation has really put him and his main business in a precarious position.

He is currently obsessed with finding ways his business can save money and I don’t blame him, because something has to change or give or else he will be going under pretty soon — most certainly by the end of 2009 — and this makes me nervous about my fiances job.

If the restaurant goes down, it takes him with it :(

Paris Hiltons British Best Friend

This show is unmitigated drivel.

I love it!

parisI am amazed that people still don’t see that Paris is an actress, people actually believe that she’s dumb when in fact she is clearly very smart. Here’s a woman who was completely unknown and with no talents, who is now known throughout the world and raking in millions of dollars.

Doesn’t sound too dumb to me.

The show is nonsense, it’s silly and creepy and lame — but I can’t help but be amused by it :)

New phone for Mum

cellI have been phone shopping today, unfortunately not for myself though — I love getting a new phone but I have been behaving and not trading in every few months as I used to.

The phone is for my mum, hers has given in after about 8 years of use and she wants it replacing asap. I asked her what sort of phone she wanted and ‘flip’ was the only thing she told me — with a bazillion phones on the market that really doesn’t help me narrow it down!

I have been looking at phones with MP3 players, good cameras, mini games for her to play and Three Deals so she can get the best possible phone in her price range.

After all that she chose a £10 Alcatel flip phone that’s most advanced feature is probably that you can turn it on and off.

Parents, huh?

Oh yes, they went there…

tblI just watched this weeks episode of The Biggest Loser USA and was disappointed to discover that they did go there at the end of the last episode, they gave away which two people would fall below the yellow line.

Way to go.

It may have brought in a few extra viewers, but it surely peed off a lot of regular viewers. Myself included. If I wanted spoilers I would go looking for them, Grrs.

I think the right decision was made in the end, Dan had fallen below the line before and his partner was not dedicated. Seeing Dan at the end really made me realise how much work he has to do, he had lost 100 pounds and he still looked pretty huge, he has a long road ahead of him but it seems he is definitely on the right track.

Go Dan.

A result at the garage

carThe other half has been having some drama with his car recently, well, I say recently it’s actually been going on for a few years — there are several little things wrong with it such as rattles and his main complaint that the wing mirrors often stick and don’t move in and out as they are supposed to. He has taken it to the garage several times but each time they just come back and say the same thing, ‘No fault found’.

His warranty runs out today, so he booked it in to the garage on Tuesday for one last attempt at getting it fixed. Alas he got the same answer as usual, no fault found — so as he was sat in the car park, grumpily waiting to set off and wishing he had gone for the Ford extended warranty rather than just the basic one — the mirrors stuck and the window would not wind down.

Score! There was no way they could say there was no fault now because it was staring them right in the face :) They say they are not sure what is causing it as their tests really did show no faults, but that since it was an ongoing issue they would take care of it even out of warranty.

Great result, and now hopefully it will eventually be sorted — it drives him mad every time it happens!

The Biggest Loser Australia – 2 days to go!

shannanOnly 2 days to go before it starts, not even that long really — this time in 2 days I will have watched the opening episode.

Squee Squee.

It’s a while since I have been this excited about a show, it is how I used to feel in the run up to Big Brother UK before it…well…got crap. I used to feel it over shows like Survivor and The Amazing Race also, but as much as I still do love them they are on so often that it’s hard to get excited — there’s never more than a few months gap between seasons.

I am sure I will be blogging about it almost every day once it begins, so prepare yourselves :)

Survivors

survivorsSo, I have watched five of the six episodes now and I have to say — I don’t know what all the fuss was about, it’s not that great.

I keep waiting for something to happen, in terms of the story actually developing past ‘We are living in a big house and keep meeting people who are all bastards’ basically.

I did think it was only a six part series, but I am guessing there will be more to come because at five episodes in it is no where near a conclusion.

I have enjoyed it, don’t get me wrong. But I was expecting a lot more.

Thinking about wooden blinds

I am thinking that wooden blinds would be good in the new conservatory — my brother and sister in law got some for theirs a few weeks ago and I really liked them.

Though to be honest they will be pretty low down on the priority list of things we need in the new house.

A sofa and a bed might come in handy before we start on decoration lol

We don’t even have any furniture for the conservatory yet so I guess it’s going to be at least a few months before I need to start searching around for blinds!

blindsThe ones my brother and sister in law got were pretty expensive though, when she told me how much they cost I had a jaw drop moment — especially as she was telling me that they got them really cheap. I wonder if they were just expensive because they chose expensive ones, or if all wooden blinds cost a similar amount? Hmm.

I guess I should look into it before deciding that I want some, because usually once I have decied I want something that is what I have to get otherwise I feel let down.

That makes me sounds really spoiled hehe

The Biggest Loser UK is coming back!

..in a slightly new guise as it will be called ‘Britains Biggest Loser’, but still huzzah! Big news for Biggest Loser UK fans, it’s coming back! Honestly I thought this was axed for good, but it’s been picked up by ITV and even more excitingly it’s going to follow the Australian format of being on nightly rather than just once a week. Awesome.

ITV1 has commissioned Britain’s Biggest Loser, a daily weight-loss show based on the original US format.

Loser follows the lives of dramatically overweight people as they undertake a strict diet and exercise regime in order to shed pounds. Participants begin in couples, but ultimately only one person can walk away with the cash prize.

A UK version was previously made for Living TV in 2005 and fronted by Vicki Butler-Henderson. It was axed after two series, with eventual I’d Do Anything champ Jodie Prenger winning the second series.

The Biggest Loser format has been adapted in 25 different territories including Australia, Brazil and the Middle East.

ITV daytime controller Adam McDonald said of the commission: “I’m thrilled that this global smash is now coming to ITV1. The phrase ‘life changing show’ is overused in telly but this compassionate, compelling format does just that.”

Executive producer Karen Smith added: “Britain’s Biggest Loser is much more than a reality show, it is a daily, real-life soap opera with inspiring personal journeys and unbelievable transformations which are life changing.”
