Programming contests

geekXMLChallenge.com currently have an interesting programming contest running that I thought I’d tell you about.

There are five separate contests running in different fields and they are aimed at all users, from the newbies like me to the big bad professionals.

You need to take a quick quiz before you start to make sure you know the basics, then away you go — you can choose which contest is for you and register your interest.

I won’t be entering myself because I don’t have the spare time right now, but I have several friends online I know will be jumping at this chance to show off and practice their skills :)

Shut up Peggy

angryPeggy from Eastenders has always been a bit annoying, but the last few days it’s like the producers decided that for a laugh — they’d see just how annoying they could make her over the space of just a few episodes.

If that was the goal they did a very good job, I almost had to turn off tonight because my urge to jump into the TV and slap her was distracting me from my work out.

Demanding people go on her protest, whether they believe in her cause or not? Annoying.

Talking like she’s the boss of Walford? Annoying.

That hat she was wearing? Annoying.

Please, let this story line hurry up and be over.

The Biggest Loser Australia – Two weeks to go!

*Breaks into song*

Iiiiiiiii know, how hard it can be, you gotta lift!

Only just over two weeks now before The Biggest Loser Australia kicks off it’s fourth season, can you tell I am a little bit excited about that?

tblausIt’s the perfect little package for me — it’s a reality show, it airs daily so it’s really easy to get really immersed into and the goal is to lose weight and better the contestants lives.

As someone who is trying to lose weight and has been for almost two years now, this show is hugely motivational to me — it inspires me to get off my (now much smaller, thank you very much) bottom and do something, get some calories burned. I think that this year though the work outs are going to have to remain indoors, I am from the UK and it is so darned cold out there this year and I don’t really have any suitable outdoor clothing, that I don’t think I am up for braving an outdoor run or two.

I find the Australian version superior to the American one for many reasons, of course I miss Bob and Jillian from the Australian show because for the last two seasons they have only been on it part time — but I love that there are many more twists and adventures a long the way, but the main thing that scores it points is the simple fact it’s a daily show rather than a weekly one.

Like I said, much easier to get fully immersed into.

Roll on February 1st :)

American Idol is back!

idolAh, I do love a good auditions episode of American Idol — I just watched the first 2 hour show tonight, I look forward to watching the other tomorrow.

It is clearly all completely contrived, I mean seriously — if people think that half of those people who turn up and are atrocious or get into fights with the judges aren’t paid, they are extremely naive. But that’s OK, reality TV is contrived these days.

Like I said a few posts ago, I am not sure I will watch the whole season — I tend to lose interest when it gets down to the live show stages. I think it ultimately because America always seem to like the people I don’t like, the people who irritate me the most seem to last the longest — I am looking at you Fantasia and Jordin Sparks!
